Finding the Right Type of Conservatory Blinds
69Finding window treatments for a conservatory type of space can be difficult because conservatory windows are usually odd in size or shape. Conservatories are not very popular in the United States but they are quite popular in European homes especially homes in the UK. If you have ever seen or been inside of a conservatory space, you are likely to understand the need for conservatory blinds or shades. The space is usually made up entirely of windows on all sides and above so window treatments are needed unless you don’t mind the lack of privacy and constant exposure to sunlight.
In shopping for conservatory window blinds, you will find that it can get quite expensive if you want coverings for all of the windows. The odd shaped or sized windows will likely require custom blinds which can be costly especially with so many needed covered. Conservatory roller blinds are probably the least expensive options but you will need to choose a good quality material. Exposure to the sun’s UV rays causes most materials to dry out and deteriorate at a rapid rate. You need to pay a little extra initially to ensure that you are getting a material that can withstand constant exposure to the sun.
Roller shades or blinds function with the help of a spring mechanism which is easy to operate but cannot be abused. Small children are likely to find the blinds interesting and they can quickly become a toy. The rolling mechanism is however much safer if you have small children around because it does not contain strings that can pose a choking hazard. The springing action of the blinds may seem lots of fun to kids but they are not intended for such abuse so that is another aspect which you will need to consider before you spend lots of money on your choice of blinds.
Pleated conservatory blinds are a little more expensive to purchase because the materials are usually more durable. You can find pleated blinds for conservatories in all kinds of materials including fabric, metal, wood, and vinyl. Pleated conservatory roof blinds are quite effective in upper windows because they operate with the help of drawstrings which makes them easy to maneuver when needed. Make sure you do keep the tie strings out of the reach of small children or pets because there is a high risk or potential of accidental choking associated with the excess strings.
Finding conservatory blinds 4 less takes a little bit of ingenuity on your part. You can even make your own minds if you really want to save money but it will take lots of work. The work will begin with the accurate measuring of each window. Next you will need to buy all of the necessary materials including hangers, drawstring, and the actual blind material of your choice. You will also need to cut the material to size and then sew or weave it to create the blind. Finally, you have to attach your choice of hangers to the blind and then to the window to finish the project. It is time consuming and unless you are very good at measuring, sewing, or weaving, this is something you may not want to tackle on your own.
Most store-bought blinds, conservatory or not, come with some kind of warranty which usually covers the materials and craftsmanship. If the conservatory blind of your choice does not come with a warranty then it is likely make of materials that are not durable enough to be considered for a warranty. Keep in mind that it will take quite a bit of money to fully cover all of the windows in your conservatory. The large investment is well worth finding a company or brand that will warrant their product for a considerable amount of time. Also keep in mind that conservatories are under constant exposure to the sun which means the conservatory blinds of your choice will need to be up to such a task for a long period of time.
