The cheapest or lowest car insurance rate may not be exactly what you need but if that is what you are looking for, the best place to start is by shopping around until you are satisfied with the results.  The lowest car insurance rates are typically found with the help of the internet.  Most car insurance companies have an online quote review process.  The online tools will ask you basic questions about yourself and your vehicle.  Once you submit the necessary information most companies will give you an immediate online quote.  It is highly recommended that you try out or get quotes from at least three major insurance companies before you buy a policy.  This will prevent impulse buying or making a purchase that is rash or based solely on what you see in a commercial, hear from a friend, or saw in a newspaper.

Shopping online for the lowest cost car insurance may take a little while but your time is well spent in gathering more information about what is available and how much you can expect to pay for an insurance policy.  The process is repetitive and time consuming but it should yield great results.  Once you receive your online quote make sure you take time to compare the rates among the different companies.  Each company offers different items under their policies so it is likely that each quote will be different in price and inclusions.  If the results are too time consuming or if you do not understand the literature provided to you, it is best to visit these companies in person.  An insurance agent can better explain each part of your insurance quote and you can gain a better understanding for what is including and what is left out of the lowest car insurance quote.

It is important to make sure you are getting at least what is considered the minimum requirements for you and your vehicle.  Each state has a different set of regulations when it comes to how much insurance you need.  If you still owe money on your vehicle, it is likely that you will need full coverage insurance.  The lowest priced car insurance may not work for you in this case.  If you happen to find that one quote is substantially lower than the other two quotes you have requested, you should contact that company to ensure that it is indeed a policy containing full coverage.

If you are not comfortable inputting your personal information online, you can just as easily contact three different companies by phone.  When speaking to an insurance agent, make sure that you are honest, especially about your driving record because that kind of information is easily attainable and something that every insurance company can easily access.  If you do not need full coverage for your vehicle, make sure you disclose this information early on because most companies will indeed quote you for the full coverage amount.

The lowest car insurance company in your area may not be though one of the major insurance providers.  In addition to online lowest car insurance quotes, you can contact a few or even one local insurance company to see what kind of premium rates they offer.  Your lowest car insurance quotes may come directly from smaller companies in your area.  If this is the case, then you may want to make sure that the right stuff is included in those policies.  If you do not know what to look for, bring someone with you that does.  Also bring your over the phone quote and make sure you have the name of the person you spoke to.  If they see that you are well prepared, you will likely get the policy that you want for the exact amount that you were quoted over the phone.  It is important to remember that insurance agents can add and take away things from a policy but only at your request.  Otherwise, you get a standard minimum or full coverage policy depending on what type of vehicle you own.
