There are many ways in which you can sufficiently cover the windows in your home.  Some homeowners choose to cover their windows because of privacy reasons while others add inconspicuous fabrics that fit a certain design scheme but still allow light to pass through.  Many homeowners also look for ways of accomplishing both purposes with one window treatment.  Regardless of your reason for wanting to cover your windows, there are various choices available including blinds, curtains, shutters, and valances.  Some offer more coverage than others.  Choosing the right window treatment for your home will basically boil down to your personal taste in décor and how much coverage you need.  Some treatments are considered modern like blinds for instance while shutters for instance, are considered more traditional.  You can however, easily find a good variety in these two styles or even something that falls somewhere in middle. 

Interior Window Shutters

Indoor window shutters are a long term durable choice of window treatment for any room in your home. Shutters provide a window with coverage that can easily be adjusted to allow complete or partial coverage depending on the time of day or on your privacy preferences. Shutter for windows come in a variety of materials with the most popular being wood. Wood shutters can be stained or painted to fit any design scheme or to match the existing wood finishes within your home. When choosing a window shutter for your interior windows you will find that there are a few different styles available. Traditional and plantation are the two most popular styles. Different from the exterior window shutters of your home, interior shutters are crafted to be attractive and functional. Indoor shutters are designed to be the most durable type of window treatment for the interior of your home. Shutters can also be easily cleaned with a duster. Depending on the color or finish you choose, once installed, your shutters will never have to be changed again.

Window Valances Combined with Blinds or Shades

A window valance combined with some kind of blinds or shades is ideal for a kitchen or bathroom. Bathroom and Kitchen window valances come in a wide array of colors, patterns, and fabrics. When choosing a color or pattern, keep in mind that a valance is a small opportunity to add a splash of color or a pattern within a room. Never go overboard on color or by choosing a crazy pattern because you don’t want the valance to take attention away from other more important design elements within a room. Valances for windows typically come in pairs but some brands sell single panels so you will have to pay close attention when you are making a purchase. All types of window treatments valances or shutters require installation so you will have to take that into consideration. Valance window treatments are simple installations that typically require one rod, a rod holder, and a couple screws on each side of the window. Shutters on the other hand, will require a couple of sets of hinges and screws for proper installation but depending on the style you choose, even more holders and screws may be required.

When shopping for shutters, curtains, blinds, or valances for your interior windows it is highly crucial that you first measure your window openings.  Ordering the wrong size may cost you extra money especially if your custom order cannot be returned for adjustment or a refund.  Most homeowners choose their window treatments in order to achieve a particular design scheme in a room.  However, some still like to have complete privacy especially during the night time hours.  You will quickly find that the market is full of choices in all kinds of window coverings and you should have no problem finding the one that will meet both your personal taste and the privacy level you prefer.  The possibilities are too numerous and you will quickly find that you can easily compare prices from one store to another until you find the best deal there is.  Use the internet to see what is available and to find the best pricing in your area.
